Component 1 Hardship Fund – Food Security Funding

We recently negotiated with the University to offer a new option under the TA Hardship Fund. We are piloting a Food Security funding project. Component 1 members (teaching assistants, academic assistants, marking assistants, lab instructors, jr lab assistants) who are currently working in a Component 1 position are eligible to apply.

Applicants to the Food Security fund that are approved will have a $150 credit applied to their One Card in the form of flex funds with the intent that those funds can be used for purchasing meals/snacks on campus.  Applications received by the 5th of each month, beginning in August, will see the credit to their flex funds that month.  This funding is considered a taxable benefit so you may see additional tax deducted from your pay to address the tax implications of this funding. We have set aside funding to cover up to a maximum of 20 people per month over the next 5 months (August, September, November, December, January). Funding for each month will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. You are limited to one food security funding approval in that time period. Receiving food security funding does not exclude you from applying to the main hardship fund if you are in need.
