State of Negotiations at UVic and beyond

NEGOTIATIONS AT UVIC:

CUPE 4163 Component 1 and 2 have been in bargaining since October 2010.  Last week’s meetings with UVic brought  closure to many non monetary proposals which until now had not been adressed.    CUPE 951, office, technical and child care workers, and CUPE 917, trades, custodial, grounds and food service workers, were also at the bargaining table in the past couple of weeks negotiating non monetary issues.  We are advised that both tables made progress in non-monetary proposals and CUPE 917 will continue that process Oct 3.  Once the non-monetary proposals are brought to conclusion we hope to return to the table to negotiate proposals that have a cost associated with them, including wages and inflation protection.

NEGOTIATIONS BEYOND UVIC:

BC Nurses Union reached a tentative agreement early last week.  The parties indicated there had been a “modest increase” and “other conditions that will be good for health care”.   Details of the agreement are expected to be released following their provincial committee meeting early next week.

British Columbia Government and Service Employees Union reached a tentative deal yesterday at the master agreement table for direct BC government employees.  The parties indicated there had been a “modest increase in wages”.

BCGEU Details:

  • one percent retroactive to April 1, 2012;
  • one percent increase retroactive to August 15, 2012;
  • one percent increase April 2013;
  • one percent increase December 2013;
