Nominations for the Two Continuing Sessional Lecturer Positions on the Component 3 Bargaining Team
Anita Bonkowski
School of Music
I’d like to be a Continuing Sessional representative for the Component 3 bargaining committee. I believe I’d
be a good addition to the team because:
1) My 30 years of sessional instruction has provided me with lots of experience regarding the kind of treatment sessionals face. My years of experience helps me to understand the needs of the members. I do not look at our position through rose-colored glasses. I insist we be treated fairly and with respect.
2) I have had experience on two previous rounds of contract negotiations. I know what to expect from UVIC’s bargaining team and am not scared to stand up to them or their expectations. When I believe in something, I won’t give up without a fight.
3) I’m a hard worker with lots of integrity. I’ve got experience in navigating complex situations and am committed to working hard to achieve a strong CBA and ensure a fair and equitable workplace for sessionals.
4) I bring experience to the bargaining table. I’ve been involved with CUPE over the years, both on the negotiating teams and also in trying to resolve workplace disputes that I’ve had to face over my many years of instruction.

I am writing to express my interest in serving as one of the Continuing Sessional Lecturer members of the bargaining committee. With over a decade of experience in academic work and student engagement, including five years as an instructor at the University of Victoria, I bring a strong understanding of faculty needs and a commitment to enhancing the academic work environment. As a member of the UVic Senate, representing Continuing Contract Lecturers, I have been actively involved in shaping policies to improve the faculty experience and institutional outcomes. I have experience and graduate training (MBA) in governance, stakeholder engagement, and bargaining, allowing me to navigate complex negotiations with a focus on collaboration and equity.
Additionally, my work with diverse groups across various educational levels, from undergraduate students to graduate scholars, has honed my ability to represent a wide range of perspectives. I am committed to ensuring that faculty and sessional lecturer voices are heard and that we continue to strengthen our collective bargaining efforts with a focus on inclusivity and fairness for all faculty members.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to contributing to our shared goals in this important process.
