Nominations for Treasurer

cupe4163 elections

Paul Emme

To my fellow CUPE 4163 members,
My name is Paul Emme. I have been a CUPE 4163 member since 2019. I have worked as a teaching
assistant for several departments, a sessional instructor for the Academic and Technical Writing
Program, and a second language teacher for the English Language Centre (ELC). I expect to continue
working at the ELC into April and beyond.
As a CUPE 4163 member, I am interested in contributing to the continuing success of our union. I view
the role of treasurer as critically important to that success, requiring both a commitment and
collaborative spirit that I believe I can bring.
In the various positions I have held at UVic, I have been the beneficiary of the labour and dedication of
my fellow union members, and I would like to contribute positively to the ongoing task of fighting for
the voices of education workers, especially in a climate when many of us are facing increasing challenges
and uncertainties.
If chosen, this would be my first time acting as a treasurer, but I am committed to learning the necessary
procedures, and I am fortunate to have the time and flexibility to do so quickly. I have already spoken
with the current treasurer to get information and advice about the position, and it is my goal to ensure
as seamless a transition with the outgoing treasurer as possible. As a teacher and researcher, I have
founded a career on being positive, open, and communicative, while understanding the importance of
timely, detail-oriented administrative work.
Many thanks for your consideration!
In solidarity,
Paul Emme

Bhagyashri Khimsuriya

I am passionate about fostering a collaborative and fair work environment, and I believe that serving on
the executive team, particularly as Treasurer, provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the well-
being of our community. The role of Treasurer is crucial in ensuring financial transparency,
accountability, and sustainability. I am drawn to this position because I am dedicated to managing
resources effectively and ensuring that our union’s finances support the needs of all members.

Belonging to a union is more than just a membership; it is a collective commitment to advocating for the
rights and well-being of every member. It means standing together in solidarity, ensuring fair treatment,
and collectively negotiating for better working conditions. A union is a powerful voice that empowers
individuals to bring positive change to the workplace and the broader community.

I bring a strong background in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and fiscal
responsibility. I used to work as an accountant at a language school in my city back in India. My
attention to detail, analytical skills, and experience in financial planning make me well-suited for the
Treasurer role. Additionally, I am committed to open communication and collaboration, which are
essential qualities for working effectively with both the executive team and union members.

My commitment lies in advancing an inclusive, equitable, and transparent culture within our union. At
the Graduate Student Society, I am also employed as a peer supporter for students. I therefore possess
strong analytical and communication abilities. Additionally, in my role as treasurer, I will give top priority
to financial choices that serve our members’ interests. I am receptive to criticism and teamwork, and I
am excited about the chance to support and contribute to our union’s ongoing success.

I am enthusiastic about contributing to the success and well-being of our community as a whole.
Serving on the executive, particularly as the Treasurer, aligns with my passion for ensuring financial
stability and accountability within our organization. Throughout my academic and professional
experiences, I have developed a keen interest in financial management and strategic budgeting.
The role of Treasurer, with its responsibilities for overseeing financial transactions, budget planning,
and ensuring fiscal transparency, appeals to my skills and aspirations. I believe that a sound financial
foundation is crucial for the effective functioning of any organization, and I am eager to apply my
expertise to help our community thrive.

Belonging to a Union holds significant meaning for me as it represents a commitment to collective
strength, solidarity, and advocating for the rights and well-being of each member. To me, being part
of a Union embodies the spirit of unity, where individuals with diverse backgrounds and roles come
together to collectively voice their concerns, negotiate fair terms, and ensure a supportive and
equitable work environment.
A Union provides a platform for collaboration, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.

I believe my background and skills align well with the responsibilities of the Treasurer role. Here are
some specific skills that I think would make me well-suited to this position:

Financial Management: With my academic background and professional experience, I have
developed strong financial management skills. I am adept at budgeting, financial analysis, and
strategic planning to ensure the effective allocation of resources.
Attention to Detail: Being detail-oriented is crucial for a Treasurer, and I take pride in my ability to
meticulously review financial records, identify discrepancies, and maintain accurate financial
documentation.

Perla Rodulfo

Hello, my name is Perla Rodulfo. I am excited to be available for the position of treasurer of CUPE 4163.
I greatly appreciate all that the Union does for us, and I have enjoyed working and studying in the Uvic
Campus community in various capacities to date. For me, working as part of the union executive will mean
an increased contribution to promoting and maintaining solidarity, fairness, and belonging in our
workplace.
Most of my past work and volunteer experience has involved dealing with stakeholders and many aspects
of accounting, fundraising, and to some extent large scale purchasing and unitary price analysis on
projects. I acted as the primary fundraiser for the Talbot Scholarship award, an award that was given to
Uvic Engineering students through EGBC. I have also performed as the treasurer while volunteering for
Engineers and Geoscientist of British Columbia (EGBC). I have experience as a tax preparer assistant during
the tax season over three consecutive years, along with experience in the banking industry.
I am a Uvic alumni, recently graduating with a master’s in applied science. I also work as a Cultural
Assistant at the ELC department at Uvic. I am currently taking the Intercultural Studies and Practice
Diploma with the Division of Continuing Studies. Fortunately for me, the program allows for being a
student in and making contacts with many departments on campus.
Regards,
Perla Rodulfo, BSc; MASc.
