2026 Communications Representative Nominees
Muskan Karmani
Department: Biology
Position: Teaching Assistant and MSc Graduate (Since April 2026)
I have been a CUPE 4163 member since 2023 as a Teaching Assistant and previously served as a Graduate Student Representative for Biology, where I regularly attended meetings, took detailed notes, asked questions, and helped represent student concerns. Before starting my MSc, I worked as a Business Development Executive, which gave me experience in communication, outreach, and engaging with different groups of people.
In addition, I have experience creating content, designing websites, and working with social media and digital communication tools. I enjoy making information accessible and engaging, and I am often described as approachable, energetic, and creative. I believe these skills would help me contribute positively to CUPE 4163’s communications and member engagement efforts.
I would be excited for the opportunity to support the Local and help strengthen communication across components.
Thank you for your consideration.
Department: Graduate Student in Sociology
Position: Teaching Assistant in Biology
I am interested in serving as Communications Representative because I care deeply about strengthening transparent, accessible, and community‑centred communication within our union, and I bring extensive experience in communications, advocacy, and member‑focused engagement across UVic and the University of Victoria Student Society (UVSS). My background includes formal communications roles, such as serving as Communications & Research Coordinator for the Society for Students with Disabilities, as well as years of advocacy work and representing student voices across university committees. I have a strong track record of crafting clear, values‑driven messaging, demonstrated through roles like Student Mental Health Blogger and through my many public‑facing workshops and talks, including accessibility and disability‑justice training. With experience maintaining websites, coordinating campaigns, and supporting organizational communication strategies, I am well‑suited to contribute to CUPE 4163’s communications work and to help ensure members feel informed, supported, and connected.
